Unlike yesterday’s interview, I did not feel any apprehension. In fact, I was very in my element today! Yesterday’s interview was the standard-issue Q&A type, which I dislike intensely. I began to wonder if the format itself was the cause of my apprehension rather than my performance, when I compare it to the format of today. They were drastically different types of interviews for different types of jobs.
Today’s interview was an interesting mix of case-study, phone interview, face-to-face, and a role play….elements that I enjoyed immensely as the interview went on. I carefully studied and prepared my responses to the case study. Approximately a half hour after I began, the phone rang. It was my interviewer, who will be a senior operations manager at the location where this promotion is located. He and I discussed the case study. He was impressed with the quality of my answers, as evidenced by the frequent positive feedback I was getting, and got around to asking follow-up questions. After we discussed the case study, he turned the interview over to the department operations manager from my current location, who asked me about my skills and background…again, positive feedback. Afterward, we did a role play…and again, positive feedback. Finally, we wrapped it up with general questions, both from him and from me. Mind you, the whole session, from the case study to wrap-up, exceeded the allotted time. Don’t know what that means, but I came out of it feeling really good! All in all, the interview and all the elements comprising it was comfortable and natural, and I left it feeling hopeful and confident..unlike yesterday.
Today, I felt like I was capable of performing at a higher level…like I could have this job or one on the same level very soon. I would be shocked and surprised if I got this job, to be honest! A part of me is not prepared, but another part trusts that, when it’s time to occupy that position, I will have everything that I need to be successful. No matter what happens, I still plan to build my brand and secure my future.
